From FreshCreation, I got the following interesting example of usage of a 2D barcode with a camera phone.
"My Japanese is not very good but if I'm right then this Japanese McDonald's commercial shows you how you can check what your Big Mac is made of by taking a picture of the barcode with your mobile."
